This paper by Prakriti Resources Center (Nepal) sheds light on the gender and climate change nexus, gender mainstreaming as a tool to address gender inequality, gender and climate change policy landscape both at international and national level, gaps and way forward.

The fifth session of our five part series on women's rights and climate finance, Experiences and Perspectives of Women Engaging in Climate Finance, shared the insights of three activists who have been serving as GCF Monitors as part of the "Women Demand 'Gender-Just' Climate Finance" initiative. They spoke about their processes of learning about climate finance and connecting with others to monitor climate finance in their communities and regions, discussed the value they have found in this work, and answered questions from webinar participants.

The fourth webinar of a five part series on women's rights and climate finance: Strategies for Organizing to Influence, Monitor, and Track Climate Finance (from Global to Local), focused on strategies to engage with various actors to both facilitate and advocate for the meaningful inclusion of the perspectives and experiences of women's groups, affected communities, and other civil society stakeholders in the design and implementation of projects and programs.

The third session of our five part series on women's rights and climate finance, Getting the Money to the People: GCF Accreditation and Enhanced Direct Action, focused on accessing the Green Climate Fund through working with stakeholders at the country level (engaging with the National Designated Authority), utilizing Enhanced Direct Access, and seeking accreditation.

The second session of our five part series on women's rights and climate finance, Gender Mainstreaming in Climate Finance Mechanisms, provided an overview of how gender equality has been mainstreamed into global climate finance mechanisms, including a deep dive on gender considerations under the Green Climate Fund by Liane Schalatek of the Heinrich Boell Foundation - North America.

This Introduction to Climate Finance is the first of a five part series on women's rights and climate finance, aiming to build knowledge and power to ensure finance flows are benefiting local women's groups, responding to community needs and respecting human rights. This session will outline the climate finance landscape, as well as the key challenges and opportunities we hope to explore in this webinar series.

GAGGA, gelanceerd in 2016, is een consortium onder leiding van Fondo Centroamericano de Mujeres (FCAM) in samenwerking met Mama Cash en Both ENDS. GAGGA bundelt de collectieve kracht van 'movements' op het gebied van gender, klimaat en milieurechtvaardigheid over de hele wereld. Wat doet GAGGA precies en wie zijn erbij betrokken? We zijn erg blij met het nieuws dat mevrouw MacKenzie Scott heeft besloten substantiële financiering toe te kennen aan een breed scala van small grants funds uit het netwerk van Both ENDS*. Deze kleine fondsen zijn uniek omdat ze worden opgericht en geleid door mensen, vaak zelf activisten, uit het land of de regio waar het fonds is gevestigd. De meeste reguliere, conventionele financiers geven aan dat ze moeite hebben om zelf gemeenschapsorganisaties en grassroots groepen te bereiken. Small grants funds daarentegen weten dit als geen ander en kunnen zo dit gat overbruggen. Ze weten wie ze moeten ondersteunen en welke financiële en niet-financiële ondersteuning het meest nodig is. Both ENDS juicht deze erkenning van de belangrijke rol van small grants funds in het financieringslandschap toe. We hopen dat dit meer financiers aanmoedigt om mee te doen!

During the 24th Conference of the Parties (COP24) of the UNFCCC taking place in Katowice, Both ENDS partner Raju Pandit Chettri – director of Prakriti Resources Centre in Nepal - was one of the selected Southern leaders to meet with the Dutch Minister of Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Sigrid Kaag. We asked Raju about his expectations, messages, Kaag's responses and his experiences of the meeting.

Op Internationale Vrouwendag (8 maart) begint de Global Alliance for Green and Gender Action (GAGGA) met de "We, Women are Water"-campagne om de aandacht te vestigen op de rollen, eisen en acties van vrouwen in de strijd voor toegang tot schoon water in de context van klimaatverandering.

Afgelopen vrijdag 29 mei is bekend geworden dat zowel de Fair, Green and Global Alliance (FGG) als de Global Alliance for Green and Gender Action (GAGGA) zijn geselecteerd als potentiele Strategische Partnerschappen van het Nederlandse ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken voor de periode 2021 -2025. Both ENDS is blij dat  de Nederlandse overheid serieus overweegt de financiering  voor deze netwerken voort te zetten, omdat ze laten zien hoe gelijkwaardige samenwerking tussen grassroots organisaties en NGO’s over de hele wereld, blijvende verandering kunnen brengen in de positie van vrouwen, in het respect voor mensenrechten en in verduurzaming van handelsketens en financieringssystemen.

"Hoeveel lagen kleding heb je aan? Een? Nee, dat is niet genoeg. Trek maar een skibroek over je spijkerbroek aan, en ruil je schoenen gelijk even in voor snowboots." Daar sta je dan, op dag 1 van je reis naar Mongolië. Ik hoorde al dat het er eind november erg koud is, en met -22 graden die ochtend was daar geen woord van gelogen.

Vandaag is het internationale vrouwendag. Een dag die zo’n 100 jaar geleden voortkwam uit stakingen van vrouwen tegen slechte arbeidsomstandigheden in de textielindustrie. Sindsdien is er veel verbeterd voor vrouwen, maar moeten we helaas ook constateren dat mannen en vrouwen nog steeds niet gelijk zijn. In 1949 waarschuwde Simone de Beauvoir al dat je vrouwenrechten nooit als vanzelfsprekend kunt beschouwen, en recente ontwikkelingen zoals de aanscherping van abortuswetten in sommige landen, bevestigen dat. Ze laten zien dat ook in het ‘Vrije Westen’ vrouwenrechten nog helemaal niet zo vanzelfsprekend zijn.
