25 civil society organisations, including Both ENDS have submitted a comment on the overarching policy of the newly proposed Environmental and Social Framework of the EIB Group. The EIB has to undertake environmental, climate, social and human rights assessment and appraisal of proposed projects to inform the decision of financing and must not rely on a clients' self-assessment and reporting (solely). The Policy needs to state clearly what the due diligence, monitoring and reporting responisibilities for the EIB are, in particular regarding human rights and contractual clauses with clients should enshrine the standards in all EIB operations, enabling for suspension of contracts if the standards are not implemented.
16 civil society organisations including Both ENDS have written a letter of concern to the European Investment Bank about a newly proposed standard for the Bank its intermediate finance investing. Both ENDS contribution to the contents of the joint letter consists out of proposals for improvement of screening, scoping, due diligence, appraisal, monitoring and supervision of high-risk clients and sub-projects. through financial intermediaries and clear and mandatory social, environmental and human rights requirements for FI investing matters.
De Europese Investeringsbank (EIB) heeft haar nieuwe beleid voor investeringen in de energiesector gepubliceerd. Hierin geeft de bank aan vanaf 2020 niet meer in projecten gerelateerd aan fossiele brandstoffen te investeren. Dit is goed nieuws voor het klimaat, en Both ENDS en partners juichen dit voorstel dan ook toe. De lidstaten van de Europese Unie moeten nu, als aandeelhouders van de bank, dit beleid nog goedkeuren.
Op donderdag 7 november stuurde een groep Europese ngo's, waaronder Both ENDS, een brief aan de vicepresident van de EU Frans Timmermans. We vragen hem met deze brief om steun voor het uitfaseren van de fossiele investeringen van de European Investment Bank.
Both ENDS co-wrote a Joint CSO Submission on the Draft Revised Version of the EIB Transparency Policy to the EIB. The transparency policy does not adequately reflect key international standards and principles regarding transparency, as set out in the Global Transparency Initiative's Transparency Charter for International Financial Institutions.
The policy should meet the nine key principles as set out in the Global Transparency Initiative's Transparency Charter for International Financial Institutions, namely: 1) the right of access,; 2) automatic disclosure,; 3) access to decision-making; 4) the right to request information; 5) limited exceptions; 6) appeals; 7) whistleblower protection; 8) the promotion of freedom of information; and 9) regular review.
De Europese Investeringsbank (EIB) heeft een zorgwekkende wijziging in haar transparantiebeleid aangekondigd. Een gevolg hiervan zou zijn dat EU-burgers niet meer in staat zullen zijn om toegang te krijgen tot interne EIB documenten, zelfs als deze het algemeen belang dienen. Een aantal campagnevoerders, waaronder Pieter Jansen van Both ENDS, heeft Minister Dijsselbloem van Financiën daarom aangespoord om zich hiertegen uit te spreken op de bestuursvergadering op 16 september.
Even leek het er op dat de European Investment Bank (EIB) niet meer wil investeren in kolencentrales. Er kwam zelfs een heus persbericht uit dat van EIB afkomstig leek. Maar helaas, het bericht was niet echt. Tijdens de jaarlijkse persconferentie van de bank sloegen activisten, die achter het persbericht zaten, opnieuw toe. Uit naam van ‘de burgers van Europa’, kreeg president EIB-president Werner Hoyer de ‘World Coal Down Award’ uitgereikt. Hoyer, die even van zijn stuk was, nam de award niet aan. De EIB ontkende de geruchten rond de investeringsstop heftig met de term ‘pure nonsens’.
De Europese Investeringsbank (EIB) heeft 40 miljoen Euro extra uitbetaald voor de Bujagalidam in Oeganda, terwijl klachten van de lokale gemeenschappen nog altijd niet zijn beantwoord. De dam is in opspraak vanwege de enorme sociale impact en de grote gevolgen voor het milieu. "Door het eigen klachtenbeleid te verwaarlozen, laat de EIB zien niets meer te zijn dan een groene wasmachine", stellen verschillende maatschappelijke organisaties.
