Vrijdag 2 maart is in Honduras de directeur van DESA, David Castillo, gearresteerd op verdenking van betrokkenheid bij de moord op Berta Cáceres, nu precies 2 jaar geleden. De Hondurese overheid weigerde lange tijd om niet alleen de daadwerkelijke schutters, maar ook de bedenkers van de moord op Cáceres op te sporen en te berechten.
Op 7 februari stond in Trouw een artikel over het afschaffen van subsidies voor fossiele brandstoffen. Dit zou een beperkte klimaatwinst opleveren. Het onderzoek waar het artikel op is gebaseerd, toont echter het tegenovergestelde aan. Niels Hazekamp (Both ENDS) en Laurie van der Burg (ODI) schreven er een kort opinieartikel over.
The second session of our five part series on women's rights and climate finance, Gender Mainstreaming in Climate Finance Mechanisms, provided an overview of how gender equality has been mainstreamed into global climate finance mechanisms, including a deep dive on gender considerations under the Green Climate Fund by Liane Schalatek of the Heinrich Boell Foundation - North America.
Afgelopen maand heeft onze partnerorganisatie Utz Che' namens enkele gemeenschappen langs de rivier Madre Vieja een rechtszaak aangespannen tegen de Guatemalteekse staat. De gemeenschappen eisen onder andere dat hun recht op water gerespecteerd wordt en dat ze beschermd worden tegen watermisbruik en -vervuiling door grootschalige landbouw.
