140+ organisations call on the European Ministers, Commissioners and members of the European Parliament to adopt a strong EU regulation on deforestation-free products. As "trilogue negotiations" on this law begin, we ask you to support a law that lives up to the promises of the European Green Deal and the Sustainable Development Goals and upholds the EU's commitments on climate, biodiversity and human rights.
Both ENDS has been asked by FMO to comment on its draft investment approach to responsibly managed forest plantations. To follow are a number of observations and recommendations, partially informed by Both ENDS long legacy of working in the forest & land arena, in dialogue with international donors, philanthropic foundations, companies, certification bodies and notably with forest dependent communities and other land users.
Ongeveer één op de zes mensen, met name vrouwen, is direct afhankelijk van bossen voor hun levens en levensonderhoud, en dan vooral met betrekking tot voedsel. Dit laat zien hoe belangrijk bossen en niet-houten bosproducten (Non-Timber Forest Products / NTFP's) zijn voor de veerkracht van gemeenschappen. Deze producten zijn voor hen een bron van voedsel, water en inkomsten, maar hebben ook een culturele en spirituele betekenis.
Op woensdag 22 mei vindt de officiële lancering plaats van het Rich Forests initiatief: een spannend moment voor Both ENDS en partners, na maandenlang hard werken. Roos Nijpels van Both ENDS legt uit wat het Rich Forests initiatief precies inhoudt en waarom het initiatief juist nu nodig is.
Both ENDS werkt samen met partners wereldwijd aan inclusief landbeheer. We willen dat land op een eerlijke en inclusieve manier wordt beheerd en duurzaam wordt gebruikt, waarbij de rechten en belangen van lokale gemeenschappen centraal staan.
