Al meer dan drie decennia werken verschillende organisaties samen om bewustzijn te creëren over urgente milieukwesties, duurzame oplossingen te promoten en aan te dringen op provinciale, nationale en regionale wetten, regels en voorschriften op basis van duurzaam en inclusief milieubeheer van het La Plata-bekken. Het programma Wetlands without Borders bouwt voort op deze basis om onze gedeelde visie van een biodivers La Plata Basin, met vrij stromende rivieren en duurzame economische ontwikkeling, te bevorderen.
