Both ENDS launches new strategy: “Connecting people for an environmentally just world”
With great pride, Both ENDS launches today it’s new strategy for the coming 5 years: “Connecting people for an environmentally just world”. This strategy was developed in close collaboration with our partner network, which has always been, and still is, the foundation of our work. Together, we strive for an environmentally just world in which people and ecosystems thrive and all people can live a life of dignity.
By working together, we have achieved important victories over the past years. Thanks to our collective long-term efforts, key public institutions and pension funds have divested from fossil fuels, and more and more governments have rejected outdated investment treaties that prioritise corporate interests over public welfare and climate action. We have leveraged funding for environmental justice organizations all over the world, and locally-led initiatives have proven to strengthen environmental justice. For instance, in the Sahel, communities have regreened 140,000 hectares of land.
Our 2026-2030 strategy builds upon these past successes, while responding to a rapidly changing context. Environmental justice organizations globally face unprecedented challenges, as political shifts and geopolitical tensions increasingly constrain our joint ambitions, limit our space to operate, and reshape the funding landscape. Despite these pressures, we remain committed to advancing environmental justice through collective action.
Rising to meet the challenges
Our new strategy is rooted in extensive dialogue with partner organizations. Together, we have shaped a strategy that not only responds to current challenges, but also reaffirms our core mission: to strengthen and connect the global environmental justice movement. In these uncertain times, we are deepening our commitment to act in solidarity, to hold the line in protecting democratic and human rights, and to support care and healing from harm done to local communities and ecosystems in the Global South.
We reconfirm our role as a strategic and committed ally to our partners. We foster connections and learning exchanges, we leverage access to funding, and ensure their voices are heard in spaces where key decisions are made on water, land, climate, and energy - including on the systems that profoundly affect these issues, such as international trade, investments and financial flows.
We will focus on fostering locally-led initiatives that advance environmental justice, while addressing systemic obstacles. This means scaling these initiatives through increasing access to finance and strengthening supportive policies. At the same time, we will support agroecological and just energy transitions by removing barriers in current trade and financial systems. With this strategic outlook, we remain passionate and ready to continue our mission.
Moving forward with resilience
Since our founding, Both ENDS has always been part of a resilient and courageous movement. History teaches us that the struggle for environmental and social justice is never linear—it is shaped by setbacks and resistance, but also flourishes through persistence, creativity, and collective power. Across the globe, communities continually find ways to rise, rebuild, and reimagine their future. And so do we.
We want to thank our partners, funders and allies for their partnership and trust. Together we will navigate the years ahead of us and build an environmentally just world.

News / 16 January 2025DetoX: Both ENDS leaves X
Both ENDS, along with many other Dutch organisations, is leaving social media platform X. In January, we will join the campaign ‘#DetoX’ by De Goede Zaak and Stem op een Vrouw. We hope that many organisations will follow us so that the hate, misinformation and the undermining of democracy on X are given less space.

News / 19 March 2024Both ENDS - Remarkably Special
At Both ENDS, we hold our own responsibility, self-direction, an open feedback culture, and personal development in high regard. Chaos, you might think? Not at all, it leads to an effective way of working with much enjoyment. The flat organizational structure that Both ENDS has been implementing since 2016 is founded on collectivity. In this, you can also see our aim of 'Connecting people for change' reflected.

Video / 31 December 2022Let's work together towards a green, just and healthy 2023!
At Both ENDS, we were happy to finally be able to meet many of our partners again in 2022. Although digital meetings are here to stay, they will never beat a live encounter every once in a while where we get to know each other's contexts, learn from each other and motivate and inspire one another.
But be it live or online, together we will work towards a green, just and healthy 2023!

External link / 24 August 2022Supporting civil society to work freely and safely (Annual Report 2021)
Both ENDS aims to ensure that civil society can work freely and safely to influence decision-making related to ecosystems, environmental justice and human rights. In many places around the world, the space for civil society organisations to operate is shrinking. Repression, harassment and violence against environmental human rights defenders – our partners among them – is on the rise.
