About Both ENDS
Both ENDS is an environmental justice mobiliser, combining advocacy and policy expertise to transform unjust systems worldwide, while strengthening the power of civil society to lead this change. From advocacy to implementation, Both ENDS transforms systems that profoundly impact people and our planet, including trade, finance, and beyond. In collaboration with a 500+ partner network across Latin America, Africa, and Asia, Both ENDS connects local voices to global decision-makers to build new systems that prioritise environmental integrity and community livelihoods.
We are an internationally oriented organisation based in Utrecht, the Netherlands. With a team of around 25 people, we work in a self-organised way - valuing decentralised decision-making, individual ownership and leadership, and open feedback. We foster a culture of care and collaboration within our team.
What you will do
As a hands-on communications assistant, you will help strengthen Both ENDS’ communications, including our digital presence, making our work visible and accessible to a global audience of partners, funders, policymakers and others who care about environmental justice.
You will work closely with our communications lead, who provides strategic direction and coordination for Both ENDS’ communications. Together, you will help ensure that our messages are clear, consistent and reach our target audiences.
In this role, you will:
Website and visual identity
-
help maintain and develop Both ENDS’ website and digital communication channels;
-
support the implementation of Both ENDS’ new visual identity across our new website and communications materials, both online and offline;
Content and storytelling
-
help collect stories from our partners and programmes, and write and edit content for social media, newsletters and the website, with a special focus on Dutch-language content;
-
work closely with communications and content specialists to translate complex issues and developments into accessible and engaging stories and messages;
-
help build and maintain a photos archive to support our storytelling;
Social media
-
support the day-to-day management of Both ENDS’ social media channels, including planning, creating, publishing, analysing and monitoring content;
-
maintain a social media content calendar, ensuring a strategic, consistent and engaging presence across our channels, with a special focus on LinkedIn;
Reach, campaigns and support
-
monitor media trends, developments and relevant conversations – in the Netherlands and internationally - and identify opportunities to increase the reach and impact of our communications;
-
support colleagues in strategically communicating their work externally, including by helping them shape content for different audiences and platforms;
-
contribute to campaigns, launches and other communication activities, including webinars and live events, working together with the communications lead and colleagues across the organisation.
What you bring
We are looking for someone who is curious, creative and hands-on, enjoys working with others, and is keen to develop their communications skills in an international environmental justice organisation.
You bring:
-
full professional fluency in written and spoken Dutch and an excellent command of English. Additional languages are a bonus, not a requirement;
-
a track record in communications activities ideally focused on environmental justice, social change and the work of civil society organisations;
-
minimum two-year experience with social media and digital communications, either through relevant projects, internships or other experience;
-
strong writing and editing skills, particularly in Dutch, with the ability to turn complex information into engaging and accessible content;
-
a good feel for social media: you know what makes content engaging and enjoy keeping up with platforms, formats and trends;
-
good organisational skills and the ability to plan content, manage deadlines and coordinate with different colleagues;
-
an open and collaborative attitude, and an ability to work with colleagues with different areas of expertise;
-
an interest in visual communication and experience with basic graphic design or content creation tools is an advantage.
-
Technical understanding of website management like CMS and WordPress skills.
We are particularly interested in people who have a foundation in communications and content creation more broadly and are motivated to grow their skills and take the next step in their communications career.
We believe in the power of diverse perspectives and actively seek to attract talented people from diverse backgrounds, including those from historically excluded groups. We encourage both experienced professionals and professionals who are motivated to to apply.
