World Water Forum in Istanbul

From the 16th till the 22nd of March Istanbul is the stage for the fifth World Water Forum. The World Water Forum is the main water-related event in the world, aimed at putting water firmly on the international agenda. A stepping stone towards global collaboration on water problems, the Forum offers the water community and policy-and-decision-makers from all over the world the unique opportunity to come together to achieve water security. Both ENDS is present at the Forum and participates on three levels.

Both ENDS contributes to a workshop on the human right and how this right contributes to Millennium Development Goal number 7 on environmental sustainability. Both ENDS partners Jose Mora Portugues (Costa Rica) and Hameda Dedat (South Africa) will panel in this discussion.

The second workshop - on the Negotiated Approach - is organised in close cooperation with Gomukh a partner from India. The Negotiated Approach is a participatory method for water management. Both ENDS will lobby for the recognition of local knowledge and capacity within this method.

In a third meeting Both ENDS and partners will discuss a common future lobby agenda. How to lobby and work together to prevent destructive dams from being build and choose for the sustainable alternative.
