Winners of the ILED ‘Women Are Educators Award’ announced
Our partner organisation ILED (Indigenous-led Education Network) announced the seven winners of the ILED ‘Women Are Educators Award’ this month. These are women who play extraordinary roles in passing on knowledge, whether in formal or informal educational settings.
The award includes a €1000 monetary prize and a commemorative token, which will be presented in each winner’s community during a celebratory ceremony. In addition, the winners are featured in a dedicated campaign that spotlights their achievements and the vital roles they play in their communities – both in local news and media, and on the global stage. Partnerships Both ENDS and ILED
Both ENDS and GAGGA partnering with the Indigenous-Led Education (ILED) network highlights the importance of supporting women and youth leadership in forest-based Indigenous communities. These communities protect a significant share of the world’s remaining forests and biodiversity, making their stewardship indispensable to addressing climate change. Only with their continued commitment to defend their forested territories does the world stand a real chance of limiting further climate disruption and buffering society from its impacts. Passing on traditional knowledge between generations plays a vital role in this effort, strengthening cultural continuity and resilience. Through ILED, women leaders and community educators are recognized for guiding learning, organizing collective action, and inspiring younger generations. ILED celebrating and awarding such exceptional women affirms their leadership, elevates Indigenous knowledge, and reminds the world that resilient forests and communities grow stronger when women and youth lead and knowledge is shared with pride and purpose across generations and territories worldwide today.
Both ENDS beliefs it is crucial to invest in the younger generations and hence was one of the supporting co-founders of Both ILED and hosts the JWH initiative for young environmental leadership.

A wave of international recognition is shedding light on the valuable role that indigenous communities play in looking after our planet's most vital ecosystems. Last night in Vancouver, two of our partners won a grant in the Inclusive GEF Assembly Challenge Program: the ILED Network and AIDER (Peru). Our colleague Eva Schmitz was present to receive the prize on behalf of the ILED Network.

Amsterdam, 8 August 2022 – In most countries around the world, the extensive knowledge of Indigenous peoples on nature, food, health, cultural traditions and Indigenous languages receives insufficient appreciation and attention in education and policy. The Indigenous-Led Education (ILED) Network believes that this must change. To mark the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples on 9 August, the ILED Network is calling for more support for the transfer of this Indigenous knowledge, which also plays a major role in resolving the biodiversity and climate crises.
