Climate March Amsterdam

On Sunday the 10th of March 2019 Both ENDS will be taking part in what is expected to become the largest climate march in The Netherlands as of yet. The march is organised by Milieudefensie, Greenpeace, Oxfam Novib, FNV, De Goede Zaak and the Woonbond and supported by Both ENDS and a large number of diverse civil society organisations. Together, we demand a safe future for ourselves, our children and for all people whose lives have already been or will soon be made almost impossible because of the effects of climate change such as droughts, disease, floods or food shortages.

During the march, we will challenge the dominant vision of the Netherlands as a small country in terms of climate impact; in fact, our country has major impact on climate change due to its export model, which depends on trade in fossil fuels and large-scale agriculture commodities, as well as the development of fossil fuel related infrastructure.

Besides taking the in-country climate agenda way more serious than it does until today, we challenge the Dutch government to start addressing the climate content of its trade model. It is urgent that we make sure that activities of Dutch companies and investors, often supported through public means, are in line with the Paris climate goals.  Therefore, we call on the Dutch government to stop its annual 8 billion euro’s of public support for fossil fuels, to divest its public budget from fossil fuels and to strengthen legal frameworks to make compliance to international social and environmental agreements, obligatory.

This is what we will march for on the 10th of March.

We’ve waited long enough and the climate will not wait for us. Invite your friends and join us!
