Supervisory Board Member - Finance
Both ENDS is looking for a new member for the Supervisory Board (Raad van Toezicht) with experience in finance. This new member will act as treasurer and chair of the financial committee. Both ENDS is an environmental justice mobiliser, combining advocacy and policy expertise to transform unjust systems worldwide, while strengthening the power of civil society to lead this change. From advocacy to implementation, Both ENDS transforms systems that profoundly impact people and our planet, including trade, finance, and beyond. In collaboration with a 500+ partner network across Latin America, Africa, and Asia, Both ENDS connects local voices to global decision-makers to build new systems that prioritise environmental integrity and community livelihoods.
We are an internationally oriented organisation based in Utrecht, the Netherlands. With a team of around 25 people, we work in a self-organised way - valuing decentralised decision-making, individual ownership and leadership, and an open feedback culture. We foster a culture of care and collaboration within our team.
About the Supervisory Board
The organisation has an independent Supervisory Board, which oversees, among other things, the strategic development, financial health, integrity, and effectiveness of the organisation. The implementation of policy and day-to-day operations are delegated to the board (Executive Director). The Supervisory Board advises on various aspects of the strategic policies and acts as the employer of the Executive Director. The Supervisory Board meets (minimal) four times per year.
About the position
In this position, you will be appointed for four years, with the possibility of a one-time renewal of four years. The position is unpaid. Your responsibilities will include overseeing and advising on the financial health of the organisation as treasurer and chair of the finance committee. You will cooperate with the business controller of the organisation on preparing the annual budget, financial accounts and maintaining contact with auditors.

You share the conviction that civil society organisations make a crucial contribution to environmental justice worldwide.

You have extensive experience with and a clear vision on financial health and organisational sustainability in a changing context for civil society organisations, with the ability to critically review annual accounts and advise on strategic multi-year budgeting.

You challenge the organisation and contribute to realising Both ENDS' ambitions, and offer working methods that add to Both ENDS' existing toolkit.

You are an ambassador for the organisation and help open doors to your networks.

You have experience as a member of a board or Supervisory Board, or have an affinity with this role.

You are sufficiently available for board meetings.

You have a strong command of English, spoken and written.

Prior experience in the governance of foundations is valued.
