272 innocent people were killed. A tsunami of toxic mud unleashed, some 12 million cubic metres of ore tailing into the surrounding areas. January 25th, 2024 is the solemn 5-year mark of the Brumadinho upstream mining dam collapse. This was Brazil’s worst environmental and industrial disaster.
In 2018, we worked closely with our partners around the world to achieve more sustainable and inclusive societies. Our joint projects and activities vary from regreening drylands to protecting wetlands, from capacity development at the community level to advocacy at United Nations level, from policy to practice. After eight years as chair of the Both ENDS Board, Paul Engel is now passing on the baton to Leida Rijnhout. In thus double interview, we look back and forwards with the outgoing and incoming chairs.
