Counterpower: movements opposing dominant opinions and developments. Where everyone confirms each other’s ideas and visions and nobody notices what’s really going on (and what’s going wrong), counterpower arises. Civil society organisations, political parties, community groups or individual activist try to turn the tide by, for example, lobbying, research, campaigns and by mobilising the masses. Counterpower goes against the flow, but also searches for a fair, sustainable alternative which instead of violating, respects human rights.
